An uphill lie is generally one of the easier sloping lies for most golfers. However, hitting the ball fat and under-clubbing is a common problem.
A golf ball on an uphill lie will fly much higher but with a lot less distance than usual. The slope has the effect of increasing the loft on the club so a 7-iron will fly more like an 8 or 9-iron.
Bear this in mind and perhaps take an extra club or two than you normally would for the distance.
How to tackle an uphill lie
1) Align your shoulders with the slope. Try to keep your spine angle at right angles with the ground.
2) Place the ball slightly further forward in your stance and place a bit more body weight on the back foot. This will help you to sweep through the ball, preventing a heavy turf-before-ball contact.
3) As you swing, make the commitment and follow all the way through, chasing the ball up the slope with your club.
A couple of things to bear in mind is that when hitting the golf ball uphill, there is a tendency to hit left. This is because your clubface tends to close as your arms and hands are release upwards through impact. To counter this aim slight to the right of where you normally would.
Also on a severe up-slope it can be difficult to transfer your weight to your front side through impact, so make some practice swings beforehand.
Go out and practise - it will soon become second nature to you.
