Golf App Brings Fun Back Into LearningMarch 6, 2015
The Downhill Lie
With downhill lies hitting the ball fat and over-clubbing is a common problem that most golfers face. Also as you are extending your arms down the slope, the ball tends to go to the right.
To prevent over clubbing the ball on a downhill you will need to choose a more lofted club. This is because the sloping terrain will de-loft it.
You will need to bear this in mind when selecting your club and club down from what you would normally chose on a normal flat part of the course.
How to tackle a downhill lie
1) Align yourself left of the target to counter the slope and the tendency for the ball to go right.
2) Set your body and weight toward the angle of the hill and place the ball position towards the back of the stance because the club will return at a steeper angle.
3) Keeping the centre of your chest level with the ball, swing easy and relax to maintain good balance.
Remember to fight the temptation to sit back on your feet as this will cause you to top the ball.
Finally, go out, practise and most importantly have fun!
